The Lampion Center is a non-profit United Way counseling agency that has served the residents of Vanderburgh, Posey, and Warrick Counties in Indiana since 1885.
Crisis Intervention and Trauma Treatment
Following a traumatic event, Lampion Center brings light and hope to the lives of children, adults, and families at their time of greatest need.
Lampion Center provides state-of-the-art mental health counseling for children and adults in southwestern Indiana who have suffered traumatic experiences. We work together with children, adults, and their families to reduce emotional distress, reinstall safety and security, prevent long-term physical and emotional consequences, and provide the guidance and support necessary for them to thrive.
Lampion center is the primary provider of mental health treatment for trauma in this region. Traumatized children and adults are primarily referred to Lampion Center by physicians, Holly’s House, Department of Child Services, and family members. Under the guidance of Clinical Director Linda Roth, MSW, LCSW, LMFT, our clinicians utilize best practices for assessment, trauma therapy, and mental health support.
Through therapy we identify trauma triggers, ameliorate symptoms, and prevent onset of long-term negative consequences. Services are provided at Lampion Center and at our counseling office at Holly’s House.
Expert trauma treatment greatly reduces short-term distress, as well as reducing long-term risks of re-victimization, drug/alcohol abuse, physical and emotional problems, aggression, and failure to achieve.
Grants and Medicaid help support trauma services for individuals and families.
Stewards of Children
Lampion Center is dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse. They collaborate with individuals and organizations throughout our community to provide a research-based, professionally produced prevention program called Stewards of Children (developed by Darkness to Light, Inc. in Charleston, SC, www.darkness2light.org).
Stewards of children is a three-hour video-based training program to prevent child sexual abuse by educating and motivating adults to protect children. Lampion Center trains over 600 adults annually and is constantly seeking opportunities to train more. Lampion Center obtained grant money which allows them to provide the training at no cost to participants. Through the training participants will:
- Become aware of the facts surrounding child sexual abuse, including the fact that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18
- Learn the 7 Steps to Protecting Children
- Be motivated and challenged to take personal responsibility for the safety of all children
To register for free training or to help coordinate a Stewards of Children training session, please call Lampion Center at 471-1776.
